"Shut up," said Ralph absently. He lifted the conch. "Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things. A chief! A chief!? I ought to be chief! said Jack" This quote is from the book The Lord Of The Flies, while it shows how fast Jack can get and how stuck up he really is. He wanted power over the group extremely bad just so he could tell everybody what to do.
Ralph pushed Piggy to one side. "I was the chief, and you were going to do what i said" (132-133). This quote shows how also Ralph can have a mean side to him as well when power is given to him.
" And you shut up! Who are you, anyway? Sitting there telling people what to do. You can't hunt, you cant sing either - "I'm chief. I was chosen". (238-241). Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power and this is what is happening with Jack. He is showing his bad character.
"Your no good on a job like this - All the same - WE DON'T WANT YOU!, said Jack. Threes enough" (274-276). During this Jack is telling Piggy that him and Ralph doesn't need him to come along and hunt.
“I’m warning you. I’m going to get angry. D’you see? You’re not wanted. Understand? We are going to have fun on this island. Understand? We are going to have fun on this island! So don’t try it on, my poor misguided boy, or else–” (149-151). This is the statement that Jack had said to Piggy. This was the moment when people realized on the island that he could not stand Piggy.
Roger edged past the chief, only just avoiding pushing him with his shoulder. The yelling ceased, and Samneric lay looking up in quiet terror. Roger advanced upon them as one wielding a nameless authority. (398-400).
"Jack's in charge of the choir. They can be—what do you want them be?" "Hunters." Jack and Ralph smiled at each other with shy liking. The rest began to talk eagerly.. (254-257).
"A fire! Make a fire!" At once half the boys were on their feet. Jack clamored among them, the conch forgotten. "Come on! Follow me!" ( 120-123).
